Hi new friends!
You may have noticed that there has not been too much activity on my page here as of late. Sorry for that. I have been drawing and sketching and preparing works for 1. a solo exhibit at a small gallery in November of my typical painted works and 2. mapping out and producing experimental sculptural pieces for the Graduate program I am currently engrossed in. My project is... involved... and I am digging deep for a serious comment on Mental health, diagnosis/treatment and stigma from the point of view of someone (me) with Bipolar disorder. It's abstract and dark and is designed to spark a healthy and much needed dialog (and hopefully challenge) the mass, societal perception of isolation and distorted emotional responses and how that applies to the human experience.
At present, the idea is grand and not terribly specific, but the point is to create a body of work that lets me sharpen my focus and rein this concept into something I can better summarize by the end of the academic year.
Confused? Me too. But I'm having a good time and the outlines and designs and conceptual drawings I am coming up with are taking me into new and exciting territory. If you are interested in reading more about it, check out my blog: www.derosaart.com/new-blog/
Meanwhile, My comic production has slowed to a crawl. Not stopped, just slowed. I have a firmer grasp on the overall narrative arc of the comic, the style I want to work in and as such, have begun to produce an interesting cast of characters.
A few of my friends tell me that I am over-thinking and I should just get to it, but taking the time to really plan things out is an important part of my process so they'll just have to wait.
